Curious about how your TEF exam will be evaluated? Here’s a breakdown of the assessment criteria used for each section of the test.
The TEF (Test d’Évaluation de Français) is graded on a 7-level scale, ranging from Level 0 (beginner) to Level 6 (advanced proficiency). These levels align with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which defines proficiency levels from A1 to C2.
Assessment by Section
Written Comprehension, Oral Comprehension, and Vocabulary & Structure sections are scored using multiple-choice questions. These are automatically evaluated.
Written Expression responses are reviewed by two independent evaluators, ensuring a fair and objective assessment.
Oral Expression is also assessed by two examiners:
The first is the test facilitator during the exam.
The second evaluates your performance by listening to a recording of the test afterward.

The evaluation focuses on specific skills expected at each CEFR level, adapted to each test section. This structured and standardized approach ensures consistent and reliable results.
