Are you preparing for the TEF exam and looking for everything you need to succeed in the oral expression section? You’re in the right place!
What to Expect on Test Day
The oral expression test is conducted face-to-face with an examiner and includes two tasks:
Section A (5 minutes)
Section B (10 minutes)
Each part is a role-play based on a real-life scenario. Topics may include a job offer, a leisure activity, a classified ad, or an event.

Breakdown of Each Section
Section A: Obtaining Information
Your objective is to gather details about an ad or activity. You’ll ask questions or rephrase the examiner’s responses to clarify information.
Example instructions:
You’ve seen an ad for [XYZ] and want more information. Call and ask about it.
Ask about 10 questions
The examiner plays the role of the person answering your inquiry
Section B: Arguing to Convince
Your goal here is to persuade someone to participate in an activity or consider an idea. You’ll share your opinion and support it with relevant examples.
Example instructions:
You saw an ad and want to suggest the idea to a friend.
Present the idea using the document
Try to convince your friend (played by the examiner)
Note: your “friend” will always disagree—don’t let that shake your confidence!
📝 The entire oral test is recorded for quality and double evaluation.
How to Prepare for the Oral Expression Test

Time yourself during practice sessions to get used to the test’s pace.
Immerse yourself in French: listen to podcasts, watch movies or TV shows, and engage with native content regularly.
Review the preparation workshop, and try practice topics specifically designed for the oral test.
